How to cook oatmeal in water?

Oatmeal is in vogue today. Hearty and healthy, it has a reputation for being a great breakfast. According to its nutritional qualities, oatmeal is a champion in terms of protein and fat content. And it gives the body calories slowly. This allows lovers of a healthy diet for a long time after eating to stay in a cheerful state and not feel hungry.

Traditionally, oatmeal is made from cereals. It is not crushed and flattened polished. Uncrushed (whole) cereals are cooked for a long time - at least 1 hour, polished - about 30 minutes.

Many people prefer to buy oat flakes - highly flattened, thin grains of oats. It does not take much time to brew them, and the thinnest flakes are simply poured with boiling water. In terms of taste and nutritional value, oatmeal porridge is in no way inferior to that cooked from whole kernels.

Oatmeal cooked without sugar and salt with the addition of fruits and berries is a wonderful dietary product. It is especially useful for people suffering from gastric and cardiovascular diseases.

Groats preparation

Before you cook oatmeal in water, the cereal should be washed and soaked in cold water for 3-4 hours. After that, put it in a colander and let the water drain.

You can pour boiling water over the cereal and leave it under the lid for 2-3 hours to swell. After that, cook.

Oatmeal is never crumbly, except for the option in which it is cooked with rice. To prepare viscous porridge, you need 3.7 liters of water per 1 kg of cereal, for liquid - 5.7 liters per 1 kg.

Cereal porridge

Prepare:

  • 2 cups of oatmeal;
  • 4 glasses of water;
  • 1 teaspoon of salt;
  • 50 g butter.

Put the prepared cereal in a pot of boiling water and cook under a lid over low heat for about 1 hour. The porridge must be constantly stirred. It should thicken and increase in size by about 3-4 times.

When the dish is cooked, add butter to it, close the lid and leave for a few minutes until the butter melts by itself.

Cereal porridge with dried fruits and nuts

Prepare:

  • 2 cups of oatmeal;
  • raisins, dried apricots, prunes (handful);
  • walnuts (a quarter cup);
  • sugar (optional)

Soak oatmeal in cold water for a few minutes. Drain the water and repeat the procedure again.

Rinse dried fruits and cover with boiling water. Chop the nuts with a knife, but not very finely.

Set the flakes to boil (the cooking time depends on the thickness of the flakes, it is indicated on the product packaging). After half the time required for cooking porridge, add prepared dried fruits to it. Taste after a couple of minutes and add sugar if needed.

Put the nuts into the prepared porridge and mix.

Delicious, fast, healthy

Very thin oatmeal does not require cooking. They must be poured with boiling water and left for 10-20 minutes (depending on the thickness of the flakes).

Prepare fillers: cut apples, pears, strawberries, bananas, oranges, dried fruits.

Combine all ingredients, add nuts, sugar or honey and mix.
